Semilla Cafe + Studio

Semilla Cafe + Studio is a Black-owned coffee shop and community space located at 1283 Main St in Hartford, CT, founded by co-owners Aimee Chambers and Elijah Hilliman with a mission to center and celebrate Hartford’s Black and Brown cultures through coffee, arts, and community programming. Serving specialty coffee, tea, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries, the cafe also functions as a creative hub featuring local art displays, a free mini library, a donation-based art supply room, and flexible event space. The venue is notably home to the MAROON Series — a monthly live music concert series spotlighting Connecticut artists — and regularly hosts gallery openings, spoken word events, and open mic nights, cementing its role as a cultural anchor in downtown Hartford.
