Founded in 2013 by Ed Freedman, Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters is Fairfield County’s first and only USDA Certified Organic, small-batch artisanal coffee roaster, located at 100 Corporate Drive in Trumbull, CT. The family-run business roasts fair-trade, certified organic beans — sourced from Central and South America, East Africa, and Indonesia — in 20-pound batches using an energy-efficient Diedrich IR-12 roaster, and primarily serves wholesale accounts at local restaurants and cafés while welcoming retail customers to its showroom. Committed to sustainability and community, Shearwater has received the Morris Media Green Award and donates a portion of all sales to Wholesome Wave, a nonprofit dedicated to improving access to fresh, healthy food.
