La Coop Coffee is a family-owned direct-trade specialty coffee company based in Washington, D.C., founded by Juan Luis Salazar Cano, who sources single-origin beans directly from the Asociación de Caficultores de Unión Cantinil (ASOCUC) — a coffee cooperative he established in 2006 in his hometown of Unión Cantinil, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The company operates its flagship roastery café at 500 Kennedy Street NW in the Manor Park neighborhood, where locally roasted coffee, food, and a vibrant interior inspired by Guatemalan textiles and landscapes create a community-centered gathering space. By maintaining direct relationships with Guatemalan farmers and ensuring fair prices for their product, La Coop Coffee blends cultural heritage with a social enterprise mission.
