Sassafrass Cafe & Pantry is a mother-daughter-owned café and pantry located at 1317 Maine Highway 102 in the Town Hill area of Bar Harbor, Maine, run by Amanda and Kira Kendall, who relocated from Virginia to Mount Desert Island in 1996. Founded on a catering tradition that Amanda began in 2003, the café evolved into its current brick-and-mortar concept and serves nourishing meals, specialty espresso drinks, herbal tonics, teas, wines, ciders, and rotating seasonal fare inspired by global comfort food made with locally sourced ingredients from farms like Triple Chick Farm and Beech Hill Farm. The cozy, thoughtfully designed space doubles as a community gathering spot, hosting special events such as jazz dinners and private celebrations, and operates year-round — a rarity on Mount Desert Island.
