About

Founded in 2004 by specialty coffee pioneer George Howell, George Howell Coffee is a Boston-area café and roasting company with multiple locations, including its flagship café at The Godfrey Hotel in Downtown Crossing and a location at Boston Public Market. Howell, widely regarded as a grandfather of the American specialty coffee movement, previously founded The Coffee Connection in 1975, which grew to 24 locations before being sold to Starbucks in 1994. George Howell Coffee sources the finest single-origin and farm-direct coffees from around the world, pays above Fair Trade prices to its producer partners, and co-founded the globally recognized Cup of Excellence competition to champion coffee farmers — extending that educational mission to customers through regular public coffee classes at its Boston locations.
