Alba

Alba is a Latino-owned specialty coffee shop located at 2124 Michigan Ave in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, founded by David Valdez and Carlo Liburdi and opened in late 2023 in the former Astro Coffee space. The café blends Mexican and Italian influences — reflected in both its name, meaning “dawn” in Spanish and Italian, and its menu, which features traditional espresso drinks alongside Mexican-inspired offerings like café de olla and Mexican mochas, with beans roasted locally by Anthology Coffee. Alba has established itself as a community gathering hub, hosting its Night Café series on the second Friday of each month — a late-night, alcohol-free space featuring live music and local artists, launched during Ramadan 2024 in partnership with Blue Moon Radio.
