Makwa Coffee
About
Makwa Coffee is a community-centered, independent craft coffee shop located at 2805 Hamline Ave N in Roseville, MN, founded in July 2022 by Jamie Becker-Finn, a Leech Lake Band Ojibwe and queer woman who opened the shop to create a safe, welcoming gathering space for the community. The name “Makwa” means “black bear” in Ojibwe, and the shop reflects its owner’s cultural values — sourcing coffee from St. Paul-based True Stone Coffee Roasters, selling hand-harvested wild rice from the Leech Lake Reservation, and committing a quarter of profits to employees through profit-sharing and another quarter to community organizations. In addition to craft coffee, cold brew, and specialty drinks, Makwa hosts community events such as game nights, book signings, and pop-up markets, reinforcing its mission as a true neighborhood gathering place.
