General Mercantile

General Mercantile is a beloved coffee shop, gift store, and community gathering spot located at 413 N. Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena, Montana. Founded in 1971 by Ray Domer, the Merc has served Helena for over five decades, offering specialty espresso drinks, old-fashioned sodas, unique gifts, local crafts, novelties, and candies in a cozy, Old West–inspired interior. Long regarded as a cornerstone of the 400 Block on Last Chance Gulch, General Mercantile has built a reputation not just for its coffee, but for fostering a welcoming counter-culture community spirit at the heart of Helena.
