787 Coffee is a Latinx and LGBTQ-owned specialty coffee company founded in 2014, rooted in a farm-to-cup model that sources single-origin beans from their own farm, Hacienda Iluminada, in Maricao, Puerto Rico. After Hurricane Maria forced the closure of all locations in 2017, the company rebuilt and reopened its flagship New York City shop at 131 E. 7th Street in the East Village in 2019, and has since expanded to multiple NYC neighborhoods as well as New Jersey, Texas, and Mexico City. Committed to ethical sourcing and community connection, 787 Coffee pays its farmers well above typical industry wages and designs each café around local culture, featuring murals by local artists and a welcoming, human-first atmosphere.
