A Special Blend

A Special Blend is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit coffee shop founded by Deedee Ungetheim and opened in October 2018 at 3900 W. Market Street in Greensboro, NC, with a mission to train and employ adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Inspired by a visit to a similar shop in Wilmington, Ungetheim built A Special Blend into a community-focused café that has since expanded to a second location at 504 N. Main Street in High Point, with more than 76 crew members across both locations. Beyond serving coffee and baked goods, the organization runs a Job Training program called “Café Crew,” allowing additional individuals with disabilities to develop social and workplace skills in a welcoming, customer-facing environment.
