Chapel of Bones

Chapel of Bones is a gourmet coffee lounge and live music venue located at 658 Maywood Ave in Raleigh, NC, inspired by the 16th-century Portuguese chapel “Capela dos Ossos” — a structure built from human bones as a meditation on mortality. Opened in 2023, the venue revived a storied Raleigh music space that had hosted bands since 2005, first as Volume 11 Tavern, then as The Maywood, before closing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chapel of Bones serves specialty coffee, cocktails, wine, and craft beer by day, while hosting an eclectic mix of live metal shows, burlesque performances, karaoke nights, art pop-ups, indie films, and community events throughout the week.
