Black Kahawa Coffee: Roastery + Bar is a specialty coffee roastery and bar located at 2 E. Broad St. in Downtown Columbus, Ohio, founded by Douglass Buckley — an Ohio native and former missionary who spent over a decade roasting and sourcing coffee in Tanzania. The business spotlights bold East African coffees imported from small farmers, roasted on-site in a street-facing roaster visible to passersby, and served alongside craft cocktails and beer. Black Kahawa grew from a mobile cart and pop-up presence into its first brick-and-mortar storefront in December 2024, supported by Columbus’s Downtown Ground Floor Growth Initiative — a city program providing rent assistance, build-out funding, and business coaching to small minority- and women-owned businesses.
