Cafe Alma

Café Alma is a Portuguese-inspired café and restaurant located at 227 Warren Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island, opened in February 2026 by Chef Kevin Matos — the son of the founders of Matos Bakery in Pawtucket, which his parents established in 1999. Situated along East Providence’s historic “Portuguese corridor,” the 40-seat café draws inspiration from traditional Portuguese tascas and serves petiscos (small plates), weekend brunch, craft cocktails, curated Portuguese wines, and live Fado music, while also featuring pastries and breads from Matos Bakery. Beyond dining, Chef Matos envisions Café Alma as a cultural hub, with plans for rotating local art exhibitions, community events, and block parties aimed at transforming Warren Avenue into a celebrated Portuguese cultural destination.
