Afterglow Coffee Cooperative

Afterglow Coffee Cooperative is Richmond, Virginia’s first worker-owned coffee roaster and café, founded in 2021 when five former employees of Lamplighter Coffee Roasters purchased the roastery side of that business and converted it into a cooperative. Located at 1719 Summit Ave in the Scott’s Addition neighborhood, the co-op operates without hierarchy through a consensus-based structure, sourcing transparently and sustainably produced coffees while working toward becoming a zero-waste business. Though not a nonprofit, Afterglow is deeply committed to mutual aid and community involvement, partnering with local organizations like MADRVA and supporting initiatives such as community-supported agriculture (CSA) box pickup and charitable giving campaigns.
